Portal Roadmap for Dynamics CRM 2016 on-premise installation

It's kind of frustrating for an architect like me right now.

I'm designing a solution that involved Dynamics CRM and a Portal using ADX Studio. As far as I know,  only option I have it's to use the latest version of it 7.x for hosting myself the portal.

Can someone confirm me that a new version of ADX Portal based on what was already implemented for Dynamics CRM online with portal version 8.x will be available for us for a Dynamics CRM on-premise installation?

If it's coming, do you have any release date?

Everyone should vote and comment on the custom code idea on CRM Ideas to gain visibility of this demand.  I would suggest you provide your specific use case for why you need code access.

At CRMUG Summit, it was mentioned the next version of the onpremise portal is likely coming next spring, but the current focus was on the CRM Online Portals (v8.2).

That being said, I don't see a lot of differences between v8.1 and v7.0.0022, asides from a cleaned up CSS interface and the fact that it doesn't require a dedicated CRM user account and a lot of the plug-ins have moved to the azure side.

The big thing for me currently is that in v7 we have access to the backend asp.net.

Setting up web pages, web forms, entity lists, entity forms, etc are virtually the same.  I have been re-creating (copying) the Liquid based web templates in v7 from v8 and haven't run into any limitations yet.

Not sure if any of this info helps.

I don't know if there's an official statement, but somebody from Adx did confirm to me that 8.0 will be available for onpremises. No timeline and he did mention that the current focus is on the new Microsoft portal.

Interesting point. But I guess you could modify the website but whether it is supported or not would be the issue. I guess we just have to wait and see.

My biggest fear about it is that MS would offer portal for an on-premise installation with no more possibility of modifying the asp.net website

Same for us - we are an ISV and would like to build a strategy for online collaboration based around ADX / CRM Portal but can't make that commitment without knowing what the future roadmap looks like and when the latest version will be available for on-premises customers, or the ability to hook one of the Microsoft-hosted portals into an on-prem CRM deployment

I also would like to know the answer to this question. You are correct that 7.x is your only option for on-premises at this time. I had hoped to see something for on-premises in the fall release but so far no news on this so I suspect it isn't going ot happen. Which means Spring or Fall next year or even later.
