Run multiple Field Service Mobile apps on Windows

There has been a blog post from Resco (2017) describing the way how you could have mutiple instances of the mobile app running in parallel on your Windows computer. However it doesn't really work that way with FS Mobile (anymore)?

https://blog.resco.net/2017/10/16/4-quick-tips-to-boost-your-resco-mobile-crm-user-experience/#more-9630

Does anyone have found out how we could use that anyway? It would make the switch and comparison between different User profiles / organisations much easier from Admins.

I have the same question (0)

I haven’t necessarily tried this with the new app. Have you tried it and what issues have you encountered?

Hi Scott, thanks for picking this one up.

My first problem is, how to find out, which folder you should duplicate, as the path described in the Resco blog article is %APPDATA%\MobileCRM\ for Windows 10.

I'm not finding this on my Win10 machine. However I find things like that: ...\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FieldService-D365_8wekyb3d8bbwe. Don't know right now if that folder could be duplicated similarly.

Than next problem is, how do I create that shortcut to the exe now? I can't really find something like the MobileCrm.exe on my machine...

Hi Moko33, to find the location of the FS App, try this:

    1. Open a PowerShell and navigate to a directory in which you have write access (e.g. Desktop).

    2. Run Get-AppxPackage >apps.txt

    3. Open apps.txt and search for Microsoft.FieldService-D365

You will find a directory that also has a MobileCrm.exe, unfortunately I failed running it according to the Resco instructions. Maybe you have more luck.

I was sitting together with Resco today and we came across a feature that seems to address the requirement. If you go to settings and scroll down to the very bottom, you find "App Folder". Creating a different app folder will create a new folder in your local file structure allowing you to have 2 parallel applications each with a separate database.

Thank you Alexander. I could find the MobileCrm.exe now and I was also able to create a new App folder.

My login credentials are stored in the App Folders (presuming save password is activated).

When I want to change an User Account it is now enough to change the App Folder and restart the App instead of having to enter Username, URL and Password again. That is great advantage!

However I don't get two sessions of the Mobile App running in prallel.

When I create a shortcut to the MobileCrm.exe (irrespective of editing the Target/Start folder) the system keeps telling me after trying to execute it, that I cannot access that file, maybe because of lacking permissions.

So maybe I need to confront our internal IT helpdesk with this.
