    Hi,

I have not heard of AX Rich Client server.

    I know:

    - AX Rich client: AX as executable running all features

    - Server: related to AX it should be AOS server

Where did you find these combination of words?

I too have never heard about "AX Rich client server",

The rich AX client is the executable running the client. It is explained on TechNet and they explain the richness as follows:

"Rich user interface – The client application that provides a rich user interface that consists of forms, menus, and controls. The client includes more than 3,000 forms that are built from a combination of metadata and X++ code. The Microsoft Dynamics AX forms use X++ to process events and business logic. Forms can host managed WinForms or Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) controls, and X++ can interoperate with managed, or .NET, classes and assemblies" (technet.microsoft.com/.../dd309595.aspx)

When you talk about "Client / Server" as a combined term, you are usally talking about the communication and "chatiness" between the client (the rich client) and the server (the AOS).

The term "AX Rich Client server" could also refer to a terminal server (or Citrix) or terminal server farm that the AX Rich Client (Ax32.exe) is deployed to.

I have a similar question and found this thread by an internet search.  I am taking an on-line training class to learn Dynamics AX and the instructor very frequently uses the term "rich" (as in: rich functionality, rich ERP capabilities, rich client, rich industry...)  Is "rich" just a common adjective they like to use or does it have a specific meaning to Dynamics AX ?  For example, should that be a capital Rich, like a name for an upgraded version?  If so, then what is the difference between a rich and a non-rich version?

    Thanks.

P.S.:  I even see the word "rich" just below this field that I am typing in.  But that refers to formatting of the font.

"Rich client" is a common term for a certain type of application client. Look at Wikipedia: Fat client for some details. It's not strictly specific to AX.

Other uses of "rich" that you mentioned are just common adjectives, meaning that the system has a plenty of functionality, you get many formatting options and so. If you look at the definition of "rich", you'll find that one of its meanings is "having or supplying a large amount of something that is wanted or needed".

Nevertheless note that I'm not a native English speaker.
