Does the new (lightweight) Dynamics 365 App for Outlook auto-track email conversations?

Hello!

Just getting to grips with the new (for us) Dynamics 365 App for Outlook.

In the past (using the full Dynamics 365 Client for Outlook), if you marked an email as tracked, then any subsequent sent and received messages would be auto-tracked by the client.

This appears not to be the case with the new lightweight App. Can I confirm that this is correct, or does something need to be configured server-side somewhere?

Setup is Dynamics 365 Online with Exchange Online, and Server-side sync has been selected for the user mailboxes concerned... Seems a bit of a chore if each and every response and reply from a tracked thread needs to be manually tagged!

Any insight would be much appreciated - cheers! :)

Hey Stan,

I do not see any options to configure automatic email tracking in the Dynamics 365 App for Outlook either. Can someone confirm that all emails must be manually tracked using the Dynamics 365 App for Outlook? Thanks!

Stanley, you set the options for auto-tracking by accessing your own personal options (the cog new the ?), looking at the email tab, and double check your setting for 'Select the email messages to track in Microsoft Dynamics 365'. The default should be 'Email messages in response to Dynamics 365 email'. I can confirm that it does work. To test it, send a new email out from Outlook and track it against a record. The email address has to be outside of your work, so try your own gmail or hotmail address, then send it. When you receive it, reply and send it back. If you have 'server side synchronization' setup, the email that you've sent and tracked will sync up along. The reply, will automatically also sync up as well. Keep in mind, that when you untrack and email and confirm that you want to delete the email records in CRM, it only deletes the email YOU tracked. It does NOT delete the replies. One other thing, when you hit track for emails that are already in your inbox, they get synced immediately. No need to wait for server side sync.

Hello Stanley. Tenfold can also help in integrating Mircosoft Office 365 and Microsoft and enabling click to dial in Outlook. They also support MS Dynamics integration. Our click to dial also works on webpages opened in Chrome. www.tenfold.com/.../dynamics

I have the exact same problem. Did you ever get a real answer that is related to the lightweight app and not the client?
