regardingobjectidyominame to long

Hi,

I changed the max. number of fields for the "Name" field of contacts from 100 to 130 characters, since the max. allowed lengths of names in our back office system is like that.

But now I face an issue, when our users try to create activities whith a regarding to such contacts, where the Name is longer than 100 characters, that the activity can't be saved because the max length of the regardingobjectidyominame is exceeded.

But I have no clue how to enlarge that?

Any advice?

thx Thomas

    Hi Thomas,

I don't think you can change that field length. It is a system field.

What you might try (and I don't know if it works):

you can create a new solution.

Add the given entity to it. Then export it unmanaged.

Open the solutions xml and look for the field in the xml.

Perhaps you can set the length there.

In that case, you can import the solution back into crm.

But as I said before: I don't know if it is going to work.

    Hi Bas,

thx a lot for your answer.

Well I'd hoped that there would be some standard customization way to fix that. I don't want to flickle around with the xml (altough I am already used to it ;)) in this case.

From my point of view this is a bug in the product and I am thinking about opening a case. Because if this leads to problems, it shouldn't be possible to change the max. lenght of the default field of an entity, if records with bigger 100 characters can't be used in a lookup link or regarding field any more ...

    Hi Thomas,

you are absolutely right. It is ridiculous that you can change the length of the name field and that the yomi field is not affected at all

Submit a new case (be prepared for a lot of patience ;) )

    Cheers

    ;)

What came to my thought is to shorten the regardingidyominame to 100 characters via js on save. Will give it a try tomorrow. Because shortening the customer names on the contact form is no option for me. But for the regarding in activities it would be OK, if that would work out ...

what's strange anyway is that this doesnt happen for the to field, but only for the regarding. Since both are activity party fields .... however

    Hello,

I noticed this thread stopped in February, however, as of last night, there was a Windows 10 update applied:

    Update for Microsoft Windows (KB3150513).

Since this update was applied, we started receiving this error on different actions.

When trying to close a phonecall record , we get this:

When trying to assign a regarding object (In this case a lead) to an Email, we get the following error:

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
