Changing Fiscal Year

We are changing our fiscal year from Jan 31 to Dec 31 - therefore this current year will be an 11 monthy year ending on December 31st. the issue is we had set up the years named based on the last month i.e. this year was supposed to end on January 31, 2010 so it is called 2010. When we switch to a calendar year, I can't call the new one 2010 as it has been taken. Other than calling it somehting else like 2910, is there another route to take.

thanks

    Re: Changing Fiscal Year

There is a tool you can purchase from Microsoft called the Fiscal Period Modifier that can help you 'rename' your existing years.  So if you have 2008, 2009 and 2010 currently created, they would be renamed 2007, 2008 and 2009.  This may take a little adjusting to for the historical years, but the theory is that it is more important to have the current years 'named' correctly.

I have never had a situation where anyone attempted to use something like '2910', but my gut reaction is that this may cause 2 problems: possible serious issues with reporting and during year-end closing and also user confusion.
