Why we can add new lead based on existing contact?

I am new in MS Dynamic CRM.

I am confuse with the concept of Lead and Contact.
"Leads are potential sales, and you or your company can get leads from many different sources."
"A qualified lead may be converted to an account, contact or opportunity."

From that sentences I visualize Lead as someone who hasn't registered as contact, but "potential" to be contact.

But why there is an option to choose if Lead is an existing contact?
If I already register Mr. X as contact, so I can register him again as a Lead too?

Sorry for a dummy question.

    Hi Intan

Lets say you have an Account (ABC) in the system and this account has multiple contacts. One of these contacts called Prashant (IT Manager) leaves ABC and joins XYZ as IT Manager.

Now XYZ company is looking for Sales Force Automation; you will create a lead for XYZ and associate it to Existing Contact 'Prashant'

This feature gives you the ability to not to  create a contact multiple times.

This was just one example there can be many examples for this.

    There are many scenario :

    1. Existing contact does not create lead for same purpose every time. May be now they have different purpose or topic to create lead.

    2. You have option. if lead topic is same then you can create opportunity directly for existing contact.

    3. Dynamic 365 have given default business process flow for sales process if you want to change (ex. Select existing contact in lead after it will be automatically redirect to opportunity). For achieving this functionality you can make some configuration in dynamic 365.

I just want you to say dynamic 365 is totally depends on our requirements.  Microsoft had given us basic dynamic module as per global requirements so you can make your CRM as per you requirements.

    Hi

In some situation there is a possibility to  use for existing/old customer in a lead. There is a customer and we worked with him for 2 yrs.Later he looked out another vendor.

We should also make him call second time right, in that time we use existing contact in the lead

    [/quote]

So, we can register a contact as a lead anytime we want to create new opportunity?

But why we need to re-qualify that contact again? If it already register in contact before, it means that they're already qualified, right?
