Hi All,
Not sure if this is a unique situation or not but here goes.... We use a subcontract supplier to paint aluminum extrusions for our business. There could be as many as 20 part numbers/BOM that get painted. We'd like to structure the BOM so that we only get 1 production order. There would be a product master and variant as the parent item. All of the extrusions would then be children of the parent, producing 1 production order and backflushing inventory upon completion of the subcontract PO. But.... Each of the painted items will be used in different areas of the manufacturing operations.
We don't want to manage the inventory of each item as all items that get painted are specific to a specific job. Engineer to order. But, because each of the painted items are used in different production areas of the plant, inventory tracking becomes impossible. Does D365 offer a way to /bundle/ all these items under one production order and then /unbundle/ them into individual items for inventory tracking?
I hope that I articulated this well enough for everyone to understand. I'm hoping that there is at least one other company out there doing something similar to us or wanting to manage similar to us.
Thanks,
John Fortino
