Read-Only Table Level Access in Dynaimcs GP 2015 with SQL Management Studio

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Good day all!

My company is using Dynamics GP 2015. Is it possible to have a user with read/write access in GP also have read-only access to the SQL tables in SQL Management Studio? I've been researching this topic for a couple of weeks now and I haven't found anything. Any help or advice would be truly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

J.

I was afraid that this might be the answer. I come from the Oracle world and thought for sure that there had to be a way to accomplish this but I guess not. Oh well. Thanks so much for your input.

I believe the only way to accomplish this is to create a new SQL login/user with read-only access to the company database and/or specific tables you want to expose. It is not possible to login to Management Studio using the GP login as the account password is hashed by GP to avoid GP users having access to the SQL database directly as it is generally not desired.
