Budget ID

Does one has to create a budget ID each year.

Or is it possible to just create a budget ID that spans say 10 years. Then use the same ID to input budgets every year. This way when we run reports from Frx we do not have to change the budget ID's in the columns.

I am also not entirely sure what is the purpose of Budget ID's.

We are a government entity and we need to run reports for current year and for prior years all the time. With different budget ID's for each year, the users will be forced to change the Frx column layout every time they run reports.

I would appreciate your input.

Thanks

    RE: Budget ID

    Hi Leah,

One budget ID can hold budget data of one year so if you use same ID for the new year your old data is changed into new budget nos.  So each year should have separate budget ID to work on with reports.

  • RE: Budget ID

Why would previous year's data be overwritten if the fiscal year changes?  For example, if I imported 2014 data in CYBUDGET, Fiscal Year 2014, I want to use the same budget ID (CYBUDGET) to upload 2015 data into.  Why would 2014 have to go away?  This makes reporting a nightmare!

    Thanks Frank,

I am bit surprised that this is not a big issue with other public sector agencies.

    Sunil,

If you use the same Budget ID for every year, each time you import a budget, the previous data will be overwritten.  Different Budget IDs allow you to store multiple budgets and then choose which budget (or budgets) you want to use in reporting.  For instance, some companies prepare a baseline budget at the beginning of the year, then modify the budget and create forecasts as the year progresses.  Using different Budget IDs to identify each modification of the original budget allows comparative reporting against the original budget and subsequent forecasts.

    Hope this helps,
