Add required field to form without affecting previous records?

Hi,

I'm attempting to add a dropdown field to an existing form and make the dropdown a required field. There's no issue with adding the dropdown. But once I set it to Required and publish it, all our Salespeople see alerts on their dashboard that they now need to fill in this new field on all their previous records (Opportunities). A salesperson could have hundreds they would need to update.

Is there a way to make the field required only for new Opportunities going forward?

I have the same question (0)

    Hi Cayshin,

You could create a business rule to achieve this.

First, add a column  which isn't required on your entity.

Then create a business like this:

    Result:

This field is not required on previous records:

And it is required when you create new record:
