Outlook Automatically track all previous emails when Contact created

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi All

Is it possible to track all emails in my inbox when it finds a matching email address in CRM when a new Contact is created.  The scenario is as follows:

I receive 7 emails last week from joebloggs@bloggs.com and this email address does not exist in CRM.  I then create Joe Bloggs as a Contact in CRM with the email address joebloggs@bloggs.com. New emails that I receive in my inbox I can get to automatically track in CRM however is there a way that CRM can look through all of my inbox and track any previous emails to the newly created Contact as well?

Many Thanks
Callum

All the new emails will be tracked on the CRM for the new created contacts, but for the old emails I think you can use manual tracking. CRM is looking only to the emails list on the CRM when email is received

    Hi Abed

Thanks for the response.  I don't want to create the Contact automatically as I want to be able to decide if the Contact needs to be in CRM and therefore the creation of the Contact needs to be manual.

What I want is when the Contact record is created manually then any emails that I have in my inbox that have the same email address as the Contact will automatically track to the Contact record in CRM.

    Thanks

    Callum

1- In Dynamics CRM for Outlook, on the File tab, choose Dynamics CRM, and then choose Options.

2- In the Set Personal Options dialog box, go to Email tab.

3- If you want to automatically create contract or lead records for tracked email messages, in the Automatically create records in Microsoft Dynamics CRM section, choose the Create check box, and then choose Contacts or Leads from the list. When this check box is selected, Dynamics CRM for Outlook will try to match the email address of recipients to an email address in Dynamics CRM. If it can’t find a matching record, it will automatically create a contact or lead record.
