SSN masking was added in GP 2015 and GP 2016, but I do not believe this was added for GP 2013. Within 2015 and 2016, there is now an SSN masking option within the Payroll Setup window (Dynamics GP > Tools > Setup > Payroll > Payroll).

If you are using any GP Payroll products you may want to enquire if they have this as an option. For example, the employee portal from Greenshades has an SSN masking option (you would/could print out the earning statements from Greenshades, not GP), so there may be other 3rd party products with similar functionality.

This could also be a great incentive to upgrade to GP 2015 R2 or GP 2016!

If you are not ready to upgrade you can also mask it through Report Writer.  See the following kb article:

    Hi Nikki,

Matt's solution will absolutely work, but there is another user-defined function that was added to the software by David Musgrave that makes it a tiny bit easier. David gave us the RW_Right function that allows us to pull the rightmost number of characters from a field. What I do is use the constant ***-**- and then concatenate it to the right four characters of the SSN. My formula looks like the one below at the end of the day - do not put in the " marks, Report Writer does that for you when you add the constant to your formula.

    "***-**-" # FUNCTION_SCRIPT(RW_Right UPR_WORK_Check.Social Security Number 4)

    Kind regards,

    Leslie
