I am trying to cancel this product reception, but the cancel button is disabled. then I try to modify it and leave it at zero so that it cancels itself. but I get this error

Could you check if there are any pending invoices for this purchase order? If yes, try deleting the pending invoice and check if the Cancel button is enabled for this product receipt.
there are no pending invoices
If you go to Product receipt lines, could you try clicking on "Unposted invoices" button and check if there are any invoices where this product receipt has been matched?
You can delete the line from this invoice and try cancelling the product receipt again.

I can see there is already posted invoice journal
Does that affect the cancellation of the reception?
If an invoice is posted for any of these lines, or if they have been included in an invoice and matched (but the invoice is yet to be posted), you won't be able to cancel the product receipt.
So to solve the problem, would I have to cancel the invoice and then cancel the receipt?
I don't think you can cancel a PO invoice. We had a thread around this topic some time back.
