Error: "unknown error occurred when the user ID and password were being verified"

We are getting this error on all GP installations in our office this morning.

I attempted to restart our servers and was able to login as sa on the server with both GP Utility and GP 2010, but we still get this error on all workstations.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Can you login on the server as normal GP user accounts?  If so,. make sure no one engage Windows Firewall on  the server and is blocking port 1433.

    Thank you, this solved the issue. We recently changed IT companies and they added anti-virus. I guess during this process they must have put in place the windows firewall which was previously not on.

    Yes, IT folks lime to turn things on and wait to see what it breaks. Glad you found the solution. They owe you lunch.
