SharePoint List Component Integration with Unified Interface

Hi Everyone,

I am trying to setup Dynamics 365 - SharePoint Document Integration using the old Dynamics CRM List Component method. The reason for that is that the customer wants to use folder sub structure which seems to be unavailable with the new Server Side Integration option.

I am using Dynamics 365 v 9.0 On-Prem with SharePoint 2016 On-Prem. I setup everything and I am able to see the document locations in the classic UI as below:

However the Document menu is not available in the Related drop-down in Unified Interface. I have seen server side integration working in Dynamics 365 online. So is this a problem with v 9.0 or simply the Unified Interface supports only the Server Side SharePoint?

Thanks in advance.

I have the same question (0)

    Hello Nikolay,

I haven't seen this issue in the past, but Unified Interface on Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement v9.0 on-premise is very limited and it has a lot of parity gaps or even issues that have been fixed online.
So I wouldn't be surprised that this scenario isn't supported on the Unified Interface version that runs with on-premise v9.0

I'm curious as to why you would want to deploy Unified Interface on-premise and not use the web client instead?

It's important that to consider that the web client on Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement on-premise is NOT deprecated.
This is specifically called out here:
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/model-driven-apps/faqs-transition-unified-interface#how-does-this-move-impact-on-premises-customer-and-what-will-happen-when-the-web-client-is-deprecated-do-web-client-forms-become-unsupported
So the web client will still be supported for them, as long as their on-premise version is supported.
Support lifecycle for every product is detailed here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/lifecycle/search

To your point on the entity sub-folder structure, I believe this still exists, as documented here:
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-platform/admin/enable-sharepoint-document-management-specific-entities

    Hi Henry,

Thank you for the fast reply and your suggestions. This is a relatively new project and it was decided to go with the UCI. There are already many developments and customization that are optimized for the new interface.

Regarding the subfolders - the issue is not about the creation/provisioning. The problem is that the new SharePoint Server Side Integration does not support sub folders. It shows the corresponding document location folder and if you create sub folders inside (which you can actually do using the New Button) - they are simply not shown.

Oh I see for the SharePoint subfolders, thank you Nikolay.
It would be useful to see if this is a supported scenario or not on UCI V9.0, so I advise that you check with support:
    https://mbs.microsoft.com/customersource/global/CRM/support/support-lifecycle/CRMSupport

Most customizations done in Unified Interface should work in legacy web client but I get your point.
Mine was that it's important that UCI limitations on V9.0 are known and understood by the customer.

RE: SharePoint List Component Integration with Unified Interface

    Hi,

I found a workaround. I tracked the url of the iFrame that is shown in the classic UI (in related documents section). It has the following structure:

    https://{sharepointbaseurl}/{sitecollection}/{subsite}/crmgrid/crmgridpage.aspx?locationUrl={url_encoded_path_to_the_folder}&langId=en-US&pageSize=250

I created a custom new tab in my entity form (in my case - opportunity) and put a regular iFrame in it. Then using javascript I can set the above url to the corresponding record's document location in SharePoint.

It works perfectly in Unified Interface and it's actually a better solution, so that the documents are now shown in a tab, and the customer does not have to go to Related menu.

    Cheers!
