How to make calculated field to run real-real-time ?

Dear All,

What I understand from various threads is that calculated fields are real-time. However, instead of real-time, these seem to happen upon save and not when the inputs are made available. Any thoughts ? Am I missing any configuration (couldn't locate so).

Background: We have a follow-on process that takes the calculated field as its input - and I need to ensure twice save to get the effective task, else it behaves funny (failed to save, check !)

Situation: Invoice amount due is net of demand, less refunds / deductions. Once the Net amount due is determined, a Js converts the amount to words. Since the entire flow is on save of new invoice record, the save function does behave funny.

Appreciate some thoughts / guidance.

Regards,

SuP

real-time for calculated fields mean after the record is saved and in the same transaction, not when the input fields of the calculated field changes before the saving.

you can write a javascript that does the same as the calculated field, without knowing exactly what are you doing is difficult to provide a different way

    hope it helps

Thanks - that clarifies. My expectation of  Real-time is/was 'on tab out of input fields' :)

My aim : Two fields have manual input. Demand Amount (A) and Deductions (B). The Calc field is to calculate 'Net Amount Due' as (A) - (B). Your suggestion of Js route is tempting, but can I approach that without dropping this field altogther ? (I have built quite a few mapping around it in view etc, don't want to re-wire all those). Thanks for the quick response.

    Hi,

You can perform the save calculation in javascript and then set the value to the calculated field. Once the form is saved, the calculated field will display the value which is calculated as part of your calculated field logic.

    Hope this helps.
