Security Roles & BU setup

Posted on by 95

Our business has asked us to create the following Scenario:

We currently have 6 Business Units:

Business 1, Business 2, Business 3, Business, 4, Business 5, Business 6. Business 6 is the Parent Business for all the others. Business 6 only consists of senior leadership. However, they want a scenario where Business Unit 5 can see all Business Units, but the other Business Units cannot see Business 5 (doesnt matter if 6 sees it or not since it is the parent unit). We created a security role for Business 5, but it makes it so that 5 cant see the others and the others cant see 5. This isn't quite what we want. We need a unit to see all others while the other cannot see it. Any advice?

RE: Security Roles & BU setup

    Hi James,

Folowing criteria of business unit need to keep in mind when you designed such kind of structure .

    - Each business unit can only have one parent business unit.

    - You can not access different parent child business unit data from child business unit. Which means if you have following

                BU6       Root of BU5 and BU4

                  |

    BU5                   BU4

      |                          |

    BU1, BU2            BU3

You can not access BU3,BU4 data from BU5.

Now from your structure you could do following hierarchy where BU6 is Root BU or you can say default organization BU and under this BU5 is child of BU6. All others BU are child of BU5.

          BU6

             |

          BU5

             |

    BU4 BU3 BU2 BU1

    Hope this helps.

    RE: Security Rp;es

Assume BU6 is the root BU or super parent. The security role should have Org level access.

Keep only the BU5 under BU6, the security role should have Parent-Child BU level access.

Keep all other BUs - 1 thru 4 under BU5, they are siblings to each other. The security role should be having BU level or user level access.

    Hi Jazmine James,

Restructure your Business Units so that Business Unit 6 is the parent of Business Unit 5, and Business Unit 5 is the parent of Business Units 1, 2, 3, and 4.
