Workflow that copies from one field to another?

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi ,

Is it possible to create a workflow that copies values from one field and populates it in another.

So, the first field can except many values(Name1, Name2, Name3), But the second field can only except one value(Name1). Each time a value is added to the second field a new activity is created. An example would in an activity the To-field can except many values, but the Contact-field can only except one. Can I populate each value from the To field into the Contact field individual which creates and new activity each time?

Thanks,

You will need to be a Office 365 admin - then use portal.office.com/default.aspx;s=crm%20online

    Hi,

I've not noticed this before - it looks like a bug with the activities social pane :(

Since you can't make an activity regarding multiple records - nor can you add a custom relationship that will affect the social pane - I suggest as a work around you ask users to use the activities navigation link to see the activities.

Can you raise a bug in the Office 365 portal for this issue?

    Thanks,

    Scott

Hi Scott, I have a problem where I send an email to lead using the TO field, which allows  for multiple values. But it does not appear in the social pane under activities, if the lead is in the TO field, It only appears in the social pane activities if the lead is in the regardingObjectId field or if the lead has been qualified?

    Thanks

It would be interesting to know why you are trying to do this. Are you trying to set the activity regarding multiple contact records?

The Activity Party lists for emails/appointments etc. can be accessed via the Activity Party entity so if you need to search for activities that have a specific contact you can use advanced find to join Activity Party to Activity.

No.  Workflows can only copy like-to-like.  If they are different types of fields, you won't be able to use workflows.  Plus, as you say, the Contact field can't ever accept those extra names.
