Entering inventory with serial numbers from scratch

I need to enter new items into our inventory that have serial numbers from the manufacture, in bulk. Is there a way to enter these serial numbers as a batch? I have created the item and did a custom serial and lot number series, see below.

A little history here, we are a telecommunications construction company and have received a lot sterilized and lot numbered of equipment from our client. We have a few thousand parts and pieces to enter and track. We have to track the serial/lot numbers as we build the sites and will later be using service contacts for the maintenance and repair of these facilities. For tax reason we created a virtual warehouse to keep track of these items and are currently using zero-dollar POs to enter the equipment into the virtual warehouse. This mean using Item Tracking Lines to enter the serial/lot numbers one at a time. Even with a scanner this is time consuming.

The only source of information I have been able to locate is Track Items with Serial, Lot, and Package Numbers - Business Central | Microsoft Learn.  However, this makes no mention of anytime of bulk update/entry function for the equipment with serial/lot numbers.

The "share with other apps" button only opens the file in excel, but it does not open so it can be edited in excel.

Anyone have any experience with this?

    Hi, Yes...it's really troublesome.

I have made a small tool before that can automatically generate lot numbers. If you have developers, you can refer to it.

How to create Item Tracking Lines automatically during an inbound transaction (Customization)

And, starting from BC18, there is a new feature, but it doesn't save much time.

New Features for Dynamics 365 Business Central 2021 release wave 1 (BC18): Automatic creation of lot and serial number information cards

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks.

While this would be great for items that I was creating and assigning serial number for/to, I need to enter the serial numbers as the manufacture has assigned. It looks like the only way to do this is one line item at a time as there is not an "edit in excel" option in Tracking Lines card. Funny that MSFT decided we did not need that ability there.

    Thanks for the assist though.

    Hi David

You can do that through Item Journal and configuration package but I do not recommend that. See attached file for guide on that

I recommend keep an eye on the following free app. They will release it in Jan 2023. This app can help with your requirement (watch the video in the app)
