Outlook and GP conflict. Outlook won't open.

I'm having an strange issue with a client using GP. When GP is open they are unable to open Outlook it is giving a error accessing the .ost file. If I have them close GP they are able to open Outlook fine. If I create a new profile it will work for a little while and then throw the same error up. It seems GP is opening Outlook exclusevly in the background and there is a file lock on the ost file? Any help for this would be great!

Have you tried doing a repair on the .ost file?

Never heard of this. Many, many people use GP and Outlook together and aren't running into this issue. If this is one machine uninstalling Office/Outlook could help otherwise reformat that machine as there is something specific that is causing this.

    Troy,

Prior to reformatting the machine as Jonathan has suggested, I would recommend you try to  Customize the Users Homepage in GP, and remove the Outlook components being accessed by GP on start up, which is likely the source of any conflict.  I too have never heard of any conflict caused by this feature, but my proposal is a less drastic measure than scrubbing the machine.

If none of the above-mentioned suggestion work, the problem may be in Outlook profile. May be your Outlook profile is corrupted. I would suggest you to create a new profile and set the default Outlook for using it.

    1. Go to the Start > Control Panel > Programs and hit on "User Accounts"

    2. Now, Click the Mail, choose the "Show Profiles" and go to Ad option

    3. Type the new name for the specific account under the Profile Name box

    4. Enter the username, primary SMTP address, exact password and click the "Next"

    5. In Add Account, hit the "Finish" tab

    6. Now, choose the profile name from "Always use this profile" option

    7. Hit the "OK" button and restart MS Outlook.

You can also recreate OST file if there exist corruption issues in OST file. Firstly run Inbox repair tool or OST Recover solution to recover corrupt OST file of Outlook.
