Email is missing required fields - Newby Question

Posted on by 452

I have recently installed Dynamics 365 for Marketing, and finding this very frustrating.

I am assuming that there is some more setup I have to do.

I did the install, selected a portalname (nothing has been configured here except the defaults) - assuming this is where I need work.

I have been going through the Microsoft tutorials.

I completed a simple segment 7 names.

I completed an email absolute basic from a template (just text and an image, nothing else)

Sent out a test email and it is received fine.

I make the very basic email live.

Then I create a customer journey, using the 5 names in my segment and my very simple email.

All of the emails are BLOCKED, even the email address I used for the test email.

In the Incomplete journey, it lists "Email is missing required fields".

There is no more information than this.

There is nothing but text on my email so not sure what could be missing.

This is why I am assuming I have to do something on the portal.

So confused and so lost.

This message isnt helping me at all.

How do I get more detailed info?

Thanks in advance

Very Lost

RE: Email is missing required fields - Newby Question

    Dear Aga,

Do you know why if the dynamic content is used within a conditional statement (if-then-else) and respectively not required, the customer journey is again resulting with the same error (Email is missing required fields)?

At the same time if I try to use the “Test send” functionality within the same marketing email, it is sent and the dynamic content is populated correctly (when the dynamic content is empty, the static text from the else clause is filled in).

    Thanks,

    Milena

/Apologies, i didn't finish one of my sentences.

Dynamic data can also be missing (= cannot be resolved) for header fields, e.g. sender / recipient / reply-to email address or email subject.

Best Regards and looking forward to hear from you,

    Aga

RE: Email is missing required fields - Newby Question

    Dear User,

We emit this email blocked reason (i.e. "Email is missing required fields") in case you used some dynamic data in your email content which does not exist.

Dynamic content is any text that is resolved based on your recipients' parameters e.g. "Hi contact.FirstName". If you used such a dynamic content in your email and, let's say, FirstName field property was not set up for your recipients, then it would result in exactly the error message you got. Similarly, if

Could you please create a basic email (from out templates), go live with it and use in a sample journey? This scenario should work without problems. And then, could you please do another test (with dynamic data) to confirm if this is what causes the issue?

Best regards and looking to hear from you,

    Aga

In addition to Mauro's questions, some screenshots would be very helpful as well especially customer journey.  I'm not clear on the fact that you created a segment with 7 people but then creating the journey you "...using the 5 names in  my segment and my very simple email" - have you used the segment in the journey?

    Thanks,

    Megan

RE: Email is missing required fields - Newby Question

    Hi "Very Lost",

    Sorry to hear that.

few questions to understand what is going on:

    - what are the details for you blocked emails? The system adds the reason why your emails are being blocked. That would help us understand what is going on.

    - regarding your other issue. can you just create a new email from one of our out of the box email templates, then just go live with it? that should work without problems.

    - for the missing fields in an email, do you recall what kind of changes or edits you have done on your email? I assume you didn't go live with that email, correct?

thanks again for all your patience

    M
