PSTL - Account Combiner and modifier

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi,

I have 2-3 accounts (for eg.) which I would to combine to one account as shown below -

000-1100-00 099-1100-00
000-1110-00 099-1100-00
000-1130-00 099-1100-00

When I validate (fine there) and click on modify, I get just one account (the first one) combined and rests are disappearing (their balances are not updated). Please note that I have already created the target account as a balance sheet account (just like the source account) and I am not able to combine the other two. Is there anything I am doing wrong, assist me please?

Thanks,

    Hi Amber,

for 125 Accounts to rename into new accounts, I suggest the 'import' method which offers a better control on the GL account list.

You have to be careful, because the PSTL has 2 options : rename or merge (combine).. depending on which one you used, the target account might just be wiped out.  Combining 2 accounts should preserve all transactions, including history, but you have to reconcile all the FY in GL and rebuild also the table GL00105 with PSTL (there is an function for this).

What integration tools are you using for your sales data ?  you could simply proceed with the account rename and then change your integration to point to the new account #'s..  easier then trying to create a whole bunch of new accounts first and then have to run the merge..

Just make sure to carefully test the whole process in a TEST company first and take a full backup of the company DB before starting.

I also have a question about this. I need to move about 125 accounts into new accounts - COA restructuring, and the original accounts have sales data that gets integrated in from 2 other sources.  I was going to create the new GL accounts, re-link the integrations, and then do the account combiner.  My concern is if data gets posted to the new accounts before I can do the account combiner, I will lose that data, as when I did a test, it does seem to remove any data in the new account (instead of combine it).

    Hi,

Can you please detail the steps you're taking to do the 'combine' of your GL accounts ?

Are you using the import method (preferred) of the range selection ?
