How to send invoices?

Hi there,

Might be a silly question, but I've found no button and no information on the web about how I can send invoices to customers, that are created in CRM?!

Regards,

Thomas

    Hi Thomas,

I presume that you are refering the vanilla version (out of box) CRM. Generating Invoice & sending it via email needs customization and this feature is not available out of box. You can use SSRS to generate the invoice in your comapny format / template & send the soft copy via email using workkflows.

    I hope this helps.

    Thanks,

I've already had a look into it, but I'm missing 2 things:

How can I customize layout of reports? Is that possible within CRM or do I have to go the programmatic way?

How could I get a workflow to run a report and append or save the result somewhere?

    Hi Mohammad,

Thanks for the links. Especially the second one is really nice to get some ideas. But my main issue is not found there, too. I need to find a way to attach and send invoices and orders. By now it' s really disappointing to see that such a common usage is not implemented by default and we're almost gving up on the idea of working with Dynamics CRM. Also because this missing feature seems to me as if Microsoft wants to force a user to buy AX or such, too.

    Regards,

    Thomas

Thomas, if you're looking for a way to generate, attach and email documents automatically without writing any custom code, then have a look at these two ISV products:

    MSCRM-addons.com AutoMerge
    http://mscrm-addons.com/Products/AddonsforMSCRM2011/AutoMerge/tabid/169/Default.aspx

XperiDo Server-side Document Creation Add-on for Microsoft Dynamics CRM
    http://www.xperido.com/xperido-server-side-document-creation-add-microsoft-dynamics-crm

It is possible to build the invoice sending process without add-ons, but you'll need to develop a plugin that connects to the report server that creates the document. The reason why this is not simple nor an out-of-the-box feature is simply that Microsoft Dynamics CRM and SQL Server Reporting Services are two completely separate products. Yes, CRM uses SSRS for reports, but in practice it's a bit too heavy a solution for meeting this kind of everyday requirements for sales document creation in most cases. Word Mail Merge on the other hand is a client-side solution, which can't really provide a sufficient level of automation for streamlining the process.

    Hi Thomas

It might be pretty late to answer a question you asked that long ago. But using XperiDo you can perfectly generate your pretty looking quotes, invoices and other documents and attach them to a personalized e-mail, which is created as a CRM e-mail activity. Have a look at http://www.xperido.com/products/xperido-microsoft-dynamics-crm. Happy to provide more info or set up a test drive for you.
