Management Reporter 2012 UR6 (or CU6) - General Question

Posted on by 1,180

Hi All -

Just checking to see if anyone knows the answer to this question:

Does MR2012 RU6 (CU6) require that each imported GP Company has a functional currency and each functional currency has an associated ISO Code regardless of if you are using the GP Legacy connection or a Data Mart?

I only ask this as it appears that functional currency/ISO codes now seem to be required when using RU6 with the GP Legacy connection. In RU5 this was only required if you were using a Data Mart. Any clarification on this would be very helpful.

Cheers,

James.

RE: Management Reporter 2012 UR6 (or CU6) - General Question

the issue repeatedly is due to multi-currency setup, or lack thereof.

Why this is not summarized elsewhere is bewildering. due to the large numbers of requests for this error, is is puzzling why MS does not fix this or publish a KB.

It behooves everyone to do this BEFORE running the Migration Wizzard. you'll avoid a lot of crashes

So here is what I've done on 3 occasions to resolve this:

    a) in <Microsoft Dyanamics GP><Tools><Setup><System><Multi-currency access>

ensure all your companies have access to the currencies you are using.

    b) in <Microsoft Dyanamics GP><Tools><Setup><System><currency>

ensure all currencies have an ISO code. Anything will suffice, the field cannot be blank. I used the 2 or 3 digits of the currency eg: USD for US dollars, and EUR for Euro, etc.

    c) Run check links on the System - both Multi-currency entries

    d) in <Microsoft Dyanamics GP><Tools><Setup><Financial><Multicurrency>

Select a functional currency and then exit - you'll be asked to run Check Links on the 'Financial - Multicurrency setup' group. I did all three as a CYA.

repeat step d)  for each company

I can confirm that I ran into this exact same issue upgrading from MR2012 RU4 to CU6 with legacy GP connection (not data mart).  I saw the same errors in the service log so applied a functional currency to each GP company and the issue went away.  Presumably, having a functional currency when using the GP legacy connector is now a requirement (or a bug introduced with CU6).

    Hello,

I had this same issue using the legacy on RU6 and I had to apply a functional currency.  It looks like the requirement has been added to the legacy provider as well.

    Thanks!

    Hi Richard -

Thank you for the follow up. I thought this was the case. The only puzzling thing is that when I recently installed MR 2012 RU6 with a legacy connection I get an error whenever I try to open a Column Definition, I get the following error which seems to imply that their is a functional currency error:

“The operation could not be completed due to a problem in the data provider framework.”

“Value cannot be null. Parameter name: source”

Microsoft.Dynamics.Performance.DataProvider.Core.ValidationException: One functional currency code must be defined.  Correct the data to define a functional currency code for the provider.

One note is that this was after a migration from FRx and the GP Company does use Analytical Accounting.

Have you seen this error before and if it does have to do with Functional Currency not being set up (and ISO codes not being assigned) then why is it occurring with a Legacy connection?

    Cheers,

    - James.

In order ro install data Mart for MR 2012 RU6 you must define the functional currency as well as ISO code for that currency. If you are not using the Data Mart you will not need the ISO code.
