AX 2009 : Scrap Quantity in production picking list --> What is the logic behind?

I don`t understand what is the business logic of the scrap Quantity in the production picking list. Hopefully somebody somebody here can bring a light on this.

First of all: The Quantity seems to be a "as of" quantity? When i do not insert a quantity in the consumption field  a scrap quantity does not have any effect?
Not fine but acceptable so far.

But if i do enter a consumption quantity and a scrap quantity (lets assume the figures are equal for ease up things) what happens is:
During ending the production the srap is considered correctly , fine!

Unfortunately after posting the picking list also the scrap quantity is considered to be a released quantity and reamining quantity is reduced  --> WHY?

In my understanding i have to pick the same quantity again in a good quality in order to be able to fulfill the production order quantity?

This can of course be done manually but with that behaviuor  MRP is missleading  and also using the functionalties of creating picking list lines does not provide any help.

Any Ideas why it was designed that why? Again: For me there is no logical explanation behind?

Thanks Weaveriski, this is what we already do (try to do)

Only in real life it is not always that simple than in the example above.

Imagine huge production orders running over more days and  even shifts where production serves itself from a shop-floor staging area.

During production they are able to realize the scrap quantities of ingredients with the help of sorting system at the line  and this is why we tried to use the scrap quantity in the picking list.

Handling the scrap with a workaround like described is ok, but still for me the question is open:

What is the idea behind the scrap  quantity in the picking list with the behaviour it  shows ?

Can you maybe give me an example where it is useful to enter scrap quantities considering production and material planing?

The only benefit i found is that costs can  be allocated to the cost of the bad raws to the finished items.

The 500 need to be written off, which if you want to consume in the cost of the 2000 you consume an additional 500, if you want not to do this you consume 2000 and handle the 500 through the return to vendor process (different if in-house production but you still have to write it off).

Hi and thanks for the reply!

    What i tried to express:

Let`s assume we have a BOM where it is defined that 1 "whatever unit" is necessary in order to produce 1 finished item. As a result for 2000 finished goods i need 2000 of the raw material.

Now during picking it is realized that from the needed 2000 of the raws 500 are scrap. In my oppinion i should  have a remaining quantity of 500 in order to be able to fulfill the production order quantity.

If the 500 are considered to be released and deducted from the remaining quantity I will not be able to reach the 2000 of the finished good and the customer will not be very happy normally.

I think it´is very uncommon that you could reach the expected outcome with less (Good Quality)  Input.

If it is possible in your Company you are in a lucky situation.

    Well, first of all hi!

In my opinion the scrap quantity is for production companies very logic.

When you are producing products of basic materials you'll always have scrap. So yeah the scrap quantity is also a released quantity.

I dont know if thats your question?
