GP launches but takes over a minute to allow login

Posted on by 125

Hello Everyone;

After much testing and researching I have found the eOne.Dynamics.GP.ExcelBuilder.Engine.dll’  is causing all of the machines at my client to take a couple of minutes after launching GP to enter their credentials

Attempting to click the user or password box results in GP looking like it is freezing up

After a minute or so they can log in without issue.

I found the issue is related to Smart List Builder and more specifically the dll file listed above.

Removal of SLB from the Dynamics.set file (leaving the dll behind) still results in a Slow login, then as expected an error pops up because the dll is present and the dictionary isnt, but this is a none issue.

Removal of the dll results in near instant launch and allowance for the user to enter credentials

Now, even if you give the users all the permissions possible through windows as far as groups and file security goes it doesn't help

But if you log in as the ACTUAL administrator the issue does not exist

Also; I ran ProcMon; for every account there are thousands more entries of activity captured by ProcMon than if the Administrator logs in (hundreds of thousands actually - too many to go through)

The client is currently on GP 10 with SP5 (most current version) installed

Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated as my testing has narrowed it down but not resolved it

Cheers All

Ian

    Hello,

Thanks for the update Leslie. I am not too familiar with Smartlist Builder as we do not support it here. However the steps I included are still what we recommend trying with performance issues (disabling all 3rd party and clearing temp tables). If the performance issue is not resolved using those steps and you are unable to figure out the cause then I would recommend contacting your Microsoft Partner or we can assist through our Partner Technical team as a billable consulting service.

Let me know if you have any questions.

    Best regards,

    Hi Dan,

The .dll he refers to, the eOne.Dynamics.GP.ExcelBuilder.Engine.dll, is part of the SmartList Builder product sold by Microsoft. It is an OEM product, not a 'third-party' product, as such.

    Hello Ian,

I see this post has not been updated in some time but I wanted to provide some additional information on recommendations we give to help with performance issues like this to add to some of the posts above.

The first thing I would recommend is clearing all the temp tables by restarting the SQL server or deleting the following temp tables in SQL after creating a restorable backup and having all users log out of the GP system:

    DELETE DYNAMICS..ACTIVITY

    DELETE DYNAMICS..SY00800

    DELETE DYNAMICS..SY00801

    DELETE TEMPDB..DEX_LOCK

    DELETE TEMPDB..DEX_SESSION

The reason for this is that sometimes records get stuck in the above tables that may cause performance issue. However in your case it sound like you are using 3rd party modules (eOne). If you disable all 3rd party modules from the Dynamics.set file and the performance issue goes away then you would want to contact the company that created the 3rd party module for support.

872087 - Steps to disable third-party products or temporarily disable additional products in the Dynamics.set file in Microsoft Dynamics GP:

    vkbexternal.partners.extranet.microsoft.com/.../ViewContent.aspx

If the above does not resolve the performance issue then it could be related to network/workstation/server performance or a bug. If you want us to look into a performance issue, we can and it is done as a bilable consulting service through our Partner Technical team.

Let me know if you have any questions.

    Best regards,

I have the same dll installed at many sites and do not have the problem you mention.

    Bob,

Take a look at these blogs from Dave Musgrave

    blogs.msdn.com/.../microsoft-dynamics-gp-10-0-service-pack-5-login-performance-issue.aspx

I have seen this apply on a non terminal Server

We have had the same problem (GP freezing for a minute before allowing password entry).  I tried removing the eOne.Dynamics.GP.ExcelBuilder.Engine.dll from the AddIn directory and it did not improve the load time.  Any other suggestions?
