After new laptop, check micr values are Arial, no long MICR font

I have a new laptop, and I print payroll checks; we print using a DRA to a dedicated MICR printer.  Previously, the MICR line printed in the correct MICR font; now, it prints in Arial font (no MICR font).

I have tested the following:

- Printed to screen - MICR font appears fine.  Exported to PDF and printed with Adobe Reader, fine.

- Shut down my DRA, forcing the print job to route to someone else's machine DRA (who is able to print checks), and the result of my payroll check is the same, no MICR font.

Am I supposed to have MICR E13B 2.1 font installed locally on my laptop, along with the DRA to print checks?

I have the same question (0)

    Hi Oceanfish26,

As your question is related to a new laptop, this is not really a question for this forum. I would suggest installing the MICR font and check the behavior. Otherwise, you might reach out to a system administrator in your company.

So, your answer is, you don't know. smh

Oceanfish26, that's a pretty rude response.  You do realize this forum is all volunteers, right?

Thank you, Frank for responding.  Absolutely, we all volunteer help here, gladly - but sometimes there are contributors who bully.  I was disappointed how the original responder, with all their badges, felt entitled to dismiss my question where it clearly isn't about the laptop, but about printing check setup - it was a yes/no question.  I didn't appreciate being told to take my question elsewhere.

I have to respond in defense of Andre.  He is one of the most helpful, knowledgeable resources in this forum and his advice to check with your System admin is spot on if installing the MICR font and testing fails to resolve the issue. Your laptop and/or its operating system could be the culprit.

    Hi Oceanfish,

If you think I'm bullying, I'm the one who should be really disappointed. I just try to help here.

If something worked before with laptop A, but not with laptop B, then it is most likely not caused by something in Dynamics 365. It would be a configuration on your laptop. At least, that would be my first guess. I don't think any additional setting in Dynamics 365 got changed or correct me if I'm wrong. The network printers form and DRA settings don't manage anything with paper size, fonts or other contents of the reports.

As you mentioned something about the MICR font which was probably not installed, you can check if it was installed on your old laptop and/or install it and check the behavior.

Maybe even the printer driver or default printer driver settings might be different. A system administrator could be able to assist identifying some more possible differences.

I'm sorry, I don't know what I did wrong in my first reply. Maybe I should have provided longer sentences to let you know why I suggested to make an attempt to install the font or get help from someone in your company which I did now.

You asked questions before where I also replied and tried to help. I do hope it was helpful and not interpreted by you as 'bully'.

Thank you, Andre, for this more detailed response, and a softer voice.  I do remember receiving your answers to questions, and they have been helpful.

I mentioned the laptop, only because it seems to be the only different factor; but in all my years of installing and using Finance and DRA I have never installed a MICR font on the hosted DRA machine in preparation of, nor have I seen it present after the DRA install.

I just cannot find any documentation on this, so I wondered if anyone else has had to purposely install a MICR font in connection with DRA and printing checks?

    Hi Oceanfish,

I have experience with DRA and special fonts separately. In the past, some companies used commercial fonts for invoice document layouts. At that time, we had to install the font on the machine with the printer driver, usually the client. Also, some barcode fonts were used.

Do you still have your former laptop? Is the printing then still working correctly? You can check if the MICR font is available in the fonts directory. If not, the MICR font is freely downloadable. There is a blog with more help. Adding the MICR font to Windows (custhelp.com)
