Is there a report that will show the transactions that are used to calculate the adjusted book balance?

Posted on by 5

I am having difficulties reconciling the bank statement to the adjusted book balance. I have entered the bank statement ending balance and checked off every transaction on the statement in the reconciliation module, but I cannot get the adjusted bank balance to match the adjusted book balance. Is there a way I can see the transactions that are used to calculate the adjusted book balance since last months reconciliation?

    Hi RonHc213,

Please read KB 854081 on how the Adjusted book balance is calculated.  Basically it starts with the checkbook balance AS OF TODAY and add/subtracts all the transactions in the CM20200 table out back to the cut off date you entered.    So if you are reconciling a prior month such as May, be aware that ANY posting interruptions on transaction between the last time you reconciled and TODAY (JULY) could affect the adjusted book balance.   So I often ask the users if they recognize the amount, even if from last week or yesterday, as if there were any posting interruptions, this would affect any prior recons since the calculation starts with TODAY's checkbook balance.  (Many times users don't say anything because they don't think something from June or July would affect the May recon, but it does by the way that balance is calculated backwards in time).   Refer to the troubleshooting section in this KB, as I often query the CM20200 table for that amount, and half the amount (in case a record duplicated) and also ask the users if they recognize the amount from ANY month.   (If you absolutely cannot find it, you may be forced to key an adjustment in order to balance in that month (ex. May), and then when you get to the month with the posting interruption (July, let's say), you should be off the other way and then need to back out your adjustment.)

Typically, it is due to a posting interruption between the last time you reconciled and TODAY, so if the user's recognize the amount in ANY month, it's worth looking into. Typically it is due to recent posting interruption that affects the balance, and happened in a later month than you are reconciling, so you dismiss it, but anything up until TODAY can affect that balance.

    Hope that helps!
