The most common deployment is SaaS, which might be sufficient for your needs. If that works for you, you can sign up for a free trial here. Or, do you specifically need a local on-premises installation?

    Hi,

Yes. Steps to set up a local BC demo:
    > Install Docker Desktop (Windows, enable Windows containers).
    > Run BC sandbox container via PowerShell:
    docker run -e accept_eula=Y -e username=admin -e password=YourPassword123 -m 4G --name bc-demo -p 8080:8080 mcr.microsoft.com/businesscentral/sandbox:us

    > Access: http://localhost:8080/BC/ with admin credentials.
    > Use CRONUS demo company for sample data.
    > Optionally connect WooCommerce or test APIs via Web Services/Power Automate.

    Thanks

    Hi

Start with a Business Central online sandbox trial (via Microsoft 365 developer tenant). This gives you a safe playground to learn finance, sales, purchasing, and integration. Once comfortable, you can look at WooCommerce connectors and possibly extend into CRM apps.

    Thanks

The simplest approach is the On-Pre environment, which can even be used to test some development.
How to connect to Dynamics 365 Business Central On-Premises in VS Code (Use the On-Premises version for customization)

    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.

    Hi,

For a small business owner looking to learn Dynamics 365 BC by doing, setting up a local demo environment is a great move. Microsoft offers both SaaS trials and on-premises sandbox options, depending on your comfort level and infrastructure.

    Here’s a clean path forward:

If you want a cloud-based sandbox, you can sign up for a free trial of BC online. This gives you access to a preconfigured demo company with sample data, ideal for exploring features like finance, inventory, returns, and tax setup.

If you prefer a local installation, you’ll need to set up BC on-premises using Docker or a full Windows Server environment. The Docker route is faster and ideal for testing:

    • Install Docker Desktop
    • Pull the latest BC container image from Microsoft’s registry
    • Use PowerShell scripts to spin up a sandbox with sample data
    • Access the environment via your browser at localhost

This gives you full control over extensions, AL development, and integration testing (e.g., WooCommerce sync, courier APIs, etc.).

Make sure to download the correct version (W1 or localized) and review licensing terms — the demo license allows non-production use for learning and testing.
