Time Sheet Report (Booking Journal Entity) - Field Service Dynamics 365

(0) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by

Good day,

I am wanting to create a sort of "Time Sheet" or "Time Card" report that employees in the field can use to review their time for the week.

Ideally, it would look something like this:

----------------------------------------------------------------
| MONDAY | Task | Pay Code | Labour |
----------------------------------------------------------------
| | Fixed hot water heater | Regular | 2.0 |
| | Replaced rusty part | Regular | 2.0 |
| MONDAY TOTAL| 4.0 |
----------------------------------------------------------------
| TUESDAY | Task | Pay Code | Labour |
----------------------------------------------------------------
| | Travel to Destination | Travel | 0.5 |
| | Deliver and install furnace | Regular | 2.5 |
| | Travel to Office | Travel | 0.5 |
| | Break | Break | 1 |
| TUESDAY TOTAL | 4.5 |
----------------------------------------------------------------
| TOTAL | 8.5 |
----------------------------------------------------------------

The trouble is trying to group these Booking Journal records by day and also totaling them by day.

I've looked into SSRS reports, but they are very heavy and seem to require extra architecture like a server.

Ideally, I would want to define this report using something more light-weight, like the built-in Word template tool. Unfortunately, AFAIK, a Word template can not do fancy group by day operations and such. (Nor can the built-in report wizard.)

If I were using SQL I could simply create a "staging" view that brings the data together and aggregates it the way I want; then a Word template could produce this report with simple repeat structures. But I can't seem to find a way to create such a "staging view" using Dynamics CRM.

Any ideas on this? Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks,

       BGS

The mobile does have a report feature oob. blog.resco.net/.../run-reports

All you need to do is create a ssrs report and put it in crm and the mobile should pick it up.

Although I did have trouble getting the reports to work as Resco changed there authentication which meant that on Field Service Mobile, the reports stopped working for a period and i'm unsure if its now working.

    Hey Thomas,

I was hoping to stay away from SSRS reports. The setup that you propose would require an SSRS server setup, right?

I am looking for something a bit more lightweight.

    Thanks,

    There are 2 options:

    SSRS Reports

When creating a SSRS report, all you need to do is develop it and the publish the .rdl file it to CRM. You don't need to set up anything if you are on CRM Online. The report is reasonably fast as you can run it offline.

You would use this if the report is quite complex in terms of look and data.

    Mobile Reports

You could also use the oob Mobile Reports in Woodford. Refer to this -

You would use this if the report is really simple.

Other than that I dont think there are many supported options for people out in the field to run an offline report.

Let me know if you want me to expand on anything.

    Hey Thomas,

Ok, thanks for the information. I'll look further into SSRS reports to see if they will fit my situation!

    Thanks,
