Access to "User Activity" under Utilities in GP

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

We are using GP 10.0.

Is it possible to give a user access to ONLY  "User Activity" under Utilities - Admin without giving the user any other admin functions?

Thank you

Wolf

    Jorge,

Great idea! If all they are trying to accomplish is having a user be able to view the data - SmartList is perfect. I'm going to put on my dunce cap now :)

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

    wolf786,

These comments regarding 'Field level security' and 'GP System password' are all valid points, but all depends on what you want to achieve and how.

If you just want to allow the user(s) just to see 'User Activity', you can create a SmartList. With a SmartList you will not need to worry about 'Field level security' neither 'GP System password' and you also can apply security to it.

    Wolf,

Please note that this user will need to know the 'GP System' password in order to open the Activity Detail window.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

The way suggested you this user you need him to be able to delete session or not.

If not then you need to make a rule for field level security and make sure you disable the delete button in there.

You need to create a Security Task, as the screenshot I sent you, then assign this Task to a new a new or existing Security Role. Finally You will need to assign the Role to the user.

As I mentioned, you might want to consider a SmartList to accomplish that.

    Thanks

Thanks for the response. Which one needs to be completed first: Task or Security Role?

I agree with Angel, following there is the screenshot of the Security task Setup window creating a Task ID for the User Activity:

Alternatively you can create a SmartList showing user activity.

Yes you can do that. You'll have to create a Security Role and Task with access to the User Activity Window only, which you can find under Product=MS Dynamics GP, Type=Window, Series=System.
