Portal Timeline on Other Entities

Posted on by

I can't find any documentation regarding this, but is it possible to use the timeline feature for portals to display activities outside of cases?

Example: Display all the activities (custom and OOB) related to the contact record on a contact portal page?

EDIT: "I'm able to see the Portal Timeline on the Entity Page just fine, the issue I'm running into is that only on Case pages can I see any related activities.  The non-case entity page just says there are no activities available.  To validate it didn't have to do with Web Role permissions, I gave users global read access for activities and my custom activity to no avail."

RE: Portal Timeline on Other Entities

    Hi,

Yes! In my case the problem was solved following this blog:

    docs.microsoft.com/.../view-email-in-timeline

I had to create the property CustomerSupport /DisplayAllUserActivitiesOnTimeline because it did not appear.

    Best regards

    Hi Hugo,

First of all apologies for the late response on this.

After looking into all the screenshots you have provided, the only other things I can think of is the entity permission settings.

Does case entity has right level of entity permissions to display the activities related to associated account, contact etc.

Please review the entity permissions on case, Account, contact and Activities.

Just play around setting up Global permissions but dont mess up with the default.

better you keep the backup before you start.

    Navigation; Sale-->Portal-->Entity Permissions.

unfortunately I dont have access to the CRM instance so that I could share a screenshot.

    hope that helps.

    Many Thanks,

    Kanwal

    Hi Kanwal,

Effectively, mail type activities appear in the CRM case form in the activities tab, even if you open the activities form and use the timeline activities view you can view the portal comments and the sent and received mails related with the case.

Regarding the form you want to review, to make sure, what is the route of this form? Do you mean the standard case form in the crm or the portal case form? The only site where I have the Timeline added is in the entity form "web - edit case" in the metadata section.

I attached screens shots of the metadata timeline of this entity.

    Thank you  in advance.

have you placed the timeline on CRM case form as well? Please ensure that you are exposing the correct form on the portal

Can you confirm that all the activities are shown on the case form in CRM?

Also, Can you send me the screen shots of both of the metadata with full view?

In the meantime, I am investigating the issue on my end.

    Thanks,

    Kanwal

Yes, I have tried to follow all the recommendations of the forum:

    1. Entity Rights:

    screen4.JPG

    2. Time line Metadata:

    4863.screen2.JPG

I can see the portal comments  but not the rest of activities like mails:

    1. Portal:

    screen3.JPG

    2. CRM:

    screen4.JPG

    3. Case Activity view:

    screen5.JPG

    Any idea?

    Thank in adavance!

    Hi Kanwal,

Something similar is happening to me. I see the comments that are made both in the portal and in CRM, but I do not see any activity of type mail in the timeline. Did you solve it?

    Thanks in advance

    Hugo.

    Hi Kanwal,

Thanks for answering. I understand from MS that there is a known bug around timeline section of portal which would be fixed in upcoming releases.

Suresh, can you send me the screen shot of your meta data grid and also the meta data form for the portal timeline?

I used the portal comments to be displayed in the subgrid on my form so portal comments are appearing fine. I did not use the portal time line due to business needs.

    see attached.
