Stock reservation : when ?

(0) ShareShare

Hi All,

can you please tell me at what moment of the flow AX reserve automatically the stock to be produced ?

1 . Sale order - accepted

2. Planned order - approved

3. Planned order - firm

4. Work order - released

This means that I don't want to reserve stock every time I approve a sale order, but I need that AX

reserve the stock automatically.

Thank you

    Hi Marco,

    It depends :-)

Do you know if you are using either of the following:

    • WMSII / Consolidated Picking / Shipments (in the Inventory management module)
    • WHS / the 'Warehouse management' module in AX 2012 R3

At A/R parameters, how is the 'Reservation' parameter set?

At Inventory management parameters, is 'Reserve ordered items' ticked?

Or are you not that far along yet, and just want to know what AX can do?

    Hi Marco,

That's good. In my opinion, Warehouse management offers the best solution for auto-reservation that standard AX has ever had :-)

You have the Auto reservation parameter that is mentioned in Bashir's links, but that will only reserve at the time you create (or update the quantity on) a sales order line. If you haven't produced the items yet, or even created the works order, then that functionality is not much use.

You have three other methods to reserve. One you said you don't want, which is to go to the order line and reserve manually.

You can also hijack the 'Release sales order picking' form:

    technet.microsoft.com/.../aa549016.aspx

It was actually designed with the creation of 'picking lists' in mind, but you don't want to create those if you're using Warehouse management. However, you can just use the form as an easier way to make reservations on sales order lines, without having to visit each sales order in turn. It is, however, still a manual method.

I've saved the best for last!

In the Warehouse management module, there's a periodic job called 'Automatic release of sales orders'. And since its a periodic job, you can configure one or more instances of it and set it to run in batch with a recurrence.

    technet.microsoft.com/.../dn887220.aspx

Depending on a parameter on the Warehouse setup, it can attempt to auto-reserve the sales orders that it releases.

Oh, and there's a fourth way. In Warehouse management, if you are building outbound Loads, you can get AX to reserve when you release a Load.

Terry, thanks a lot for your replies .

I didn't tell you an important thing : that we are a manufacturing company.

I would like to reserve a certain qty of stock to be sure that I can then produce an order.

So I have the need to reserve the stock once I firm the Planned work order, and I would like to set the system in this way as a default setting.

So every time I firm a Planned WO, the system reserves the stock needed.

I'm sorry but I didn't see how to do in the links you sent to me...

Can you please give me an hand ?

    Thanks again

You mean you want to reserve the stock of raw materials to the works order at the time the works order is created?

    Ciao Marco,

The level of choice for reserving stock in production is the following:

    - the default reservation policy on the Production control parameters which cannot go lower than Estimate. This policy is copied to the created works order

    - The works order itself can have a different reservation policy. Your standard reservation can be triggered in status Scheduled, but you can set that a specific works order will start reserving in status Released.

Basically, the components for production will be reserved once your works order reaches a certain defined state. Also, since you use WMS keep in mind that once you release the WO the system creates picks for the reserved stock. I hope this answers your questions.

    Kind regards,

    Josip
