Hi All,

Is it recommended to only do soft booking and soft assignment of resource to a project without doing hard book/ assign process. What would be the implication of keeping the process only at soft book and soft assgin stage ?

Regards,

Nakul

    Hi Nakul,

You can only use soft planning or no planning at all. It doesn't matter for time writing. The only difference is the visibility in resource availability. When you don't do a hard planning, you don't know the difference between committed resources and reserved resources.

    Hi Nakul,

Be aware that Soft booking is a tentative reservation where the time of worker could still be reserved for other projects. By having a difference with Hard booking (firm reservation) where the time of worker cannot be reserved in other projects.

There is an important workflow you can set up (Resource request workflow) where Project Managers can submit requests for the resources desired in the projects and the Resources Managers can approve/reject the requests. Project Managers submit the request of workers by soft booking in projects, whenever the Resource Manager approve the request, the tentative booking (soft booking) is automatically converted to Hard booking (firm reservation). You can take the advantage of this flow too (from Soft to Hard).

    Kind Regards

    Thanks Miguel,

I am just wondering that even if you do a hard assgin, still you can hard book/ hard assign the same resource on some other project and system will just highlight the resource with red color as overbooked but will never stop user from hard book/hard assign a resource already hard assigned to another project.

    Hi Nakul,

When you made a hard assignment (firm booking) those hours cannot be booked to other projects. Based on the schedule calendar set up for worker (e.g. frequent 8 hour per day) you could hard assign 5 hours to a project, then there will be 3 hours left for same worker in the same day which could be still assigned to another project. However, if total hour per day for worker has been hard booked  (e.g. 8 Hours) you cannot book these to other project.

     Kind Regards
