My GP gave me an Inventory Balance from the Blue!! Pls help

Hello, 

I had entered beginning balance Quantity from the Inventory transaction window using adjustment. I actually entered an item with a quantity of 506 with base U of M in litres. That was the first entry into the system as as the inventory items were concerned only for the application to change the balance to 1,766. As if there were inventory items in the history periods. (these i have confirmed that there were none). Where on earth the the Application got the balance from. All report had been checked none could help.

What could have gone wrong?.

    Thanks for ypur guidance. I have reconcilled the inventory balance and realised that the Quantity on hand is correct. But the problem is with the report display. Now, let me explain what the problem is now. The Stock item Inquiry window is displaying such that the Total Inventory receipt so far appears as the opening balance..I tried to receive an extra amount of 2000 quantities, and the Opening balance increased by 2000. Though it showed the deduction (Issued) as well, but in a logic that i don't understand. Where can i correct this in GP. I presumed it to be a set-up problem. But where in the Set-up?

    Are you sure litres is the Base UOM on the item card?  It sounds like a UOM conversion may have occurred.
