Hi Everyone. For my company, I am the new caretaker for our Great Plains application Version 10. I don't know much about the application in general. I'm would like to learn more about the back-end of great plains IE: table structure and queries/installation/configuring. Do you guys know what a good book is for this particualar knowledge? I tried looking up books geared towards certification for GP 10 installation/configuring, but on Microsoft website, they did not recommend any books towards this. If you guys know of any that would be greatly appreciated!!

 Thank you.

    Hi Monique,

Nick provided a good starting list of books you can read thru to get more acquainted with GP. Another good starting point is to read thru the various PDF included in the GP documentation, especially the ones for the Administrator.

Your next stop should be the Customer Source where you can find lots of training documentation available for free, and of course the many good blogs out there related to Dynamics GP.

Just to mention a few :
    blogs.msdn.com/.../about.aspx
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/gp/
    dynamicsgpblogster.blogspot.com
    msdynamicsgp.blogspot.com
    dynamicsconfessions.blogspot.com

Of course, nothing will replace a good experience as a DBa, since it's almost a must to master SQL to provide a good support to GP.

    Beat,

Thanks for pointing out CustomerSource. Yes CustomerSource is a great resource for customers to use for self help.  Beat also called out a lot of the top GP blogs but I also wanted to let you know you can view a total of 30 Microsoft Dynamics GP blogs in one location on the community site: https://community.dynamics.com/product/gp/b/default.aspx .

If you search the GP Community Blogs and put in 'gp table structure' as your search criteria you will get some great hits. I even have an article myself at:

    community.dynamics.com/.../dynamics-gp-table-names.aspx

If you have any questions about the tables please 'Ask the Community!' There are tons of people there to help you.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie
