Permission on a field

Hi I have a question about assigning permissions.

I have field on the purchline that I want to restrict to 'view' except for a particular role.

So, here's the plan...

1.  Go into a role that has permission to the field in question. (such as the Purchasing Agent).

2.  Override the permission on that field to 'view'

3.  Click on 'Apply to All Roles'

4.  Create a new role

5.  Add the Purchline to the Forms part of the Role

6.  Add the field in question.

7.  Set permission on the Field to 'update'

8.  Add the Role to whoever needs to update that field.

...sound good?

Thanks in advance.

    Not yet,

I was wondering how the 'apply to all roles' button works.  I assume it goes through all roles that have access to the specific table.field and would set them all to 'view' and would not touch the roles that have no access to that table.field.

Or would it set that table.field on all roles and add the table.field to roles where it does not exist.

    ...just wondering...

    Hi,

Can you let me know the path/form where can I find this "apply to all roles" button as somehow I couldn't find it.

    Hello,

Yes the first one is correct it updates all the roles that have access to the table and field only. Actually you don't have to click the "apply to all roles" button unless if you need to override the permissions across all the roles.

    Best,

    Srini

    Hello,

The "apply to all roles" button is available on override permissions screen and you need to un check the Do not override checkbox.

Security roles> select any role> click on Override permissions>  Apply to all roles button is at the bottom of the screen.

I have another question.  When you import a role from one environment to another.  Does it import the override permissions as well or do you have to set that up separately?

    Yes it imports automatically.

Thanks, could you answer another question?  When you hit 'apply to all roles' on a table.field, does it apply to all roles with that table.field and leave the other roles alone?

    Thanks in advance

I selected the table.field and hit 'apply' and it the field properly in all roles  but it set the table access of all related roles to 'no access'.
