MS Dynamics CRM 2015 Easy way to edit a plugin

Hello,

please can you help me with one task?

The only thing I need is to edit one string in one custom plugin. I have some experience with .NET/C#, but I am totally lost in user interface and (un)compatibility of the apps...

CRM is in the version 2015. I have installed both Visual Studio Community 2013 and 2015 (btw oh, I am so exhausted... Spend almost whole weekend by installing them! So many crashes..), but CRM Developer Toolkit doesn't recognize any of them. I found some guides how to create a plugin without Dev Toolkit, but I am not able to find out how can I edit solution, which is already published in the CRM. I export it, but VS cannot open it...

Do you know about some guide which can help me? I suppose I need to:

1) open current solution

2) change the code in VS

3) build a new (or update the old one?) solution

4) publish the changes

I appreciate your help! M.

    There was a recent blog post by Salim Adamon on how to do this. Have a look at http://salimadamoncrm.com/2015/10/01/how-to-remove-dependencies-to-crm-developer-toolkit/.

    Hi MRyan,
    I guess you are trying to update or change the plugin code.
    Just update your code and build the solution.
    >Open Plugin Registration tool
    >Create Connection
    >Select your plugin, click update->select your .dll (It will be available under you source code ->bin->debug ).
    Please refer attached screens .

    Hi,

    CRM does not store source code of the plugin in CRM application, so in order to edit your plugin you should have your plugin source code that you can edit and then update the existing one using plugin registration tool.

    You can extract plugin from data base as well but as you are using CRM online it's not possible in your case.

    Thanks

    Hi,

                 you need to make changes in the source code and then again deploy the changes to work. So you need the plugin source code.

    Hello,

    @Natraj Yegnaraman, Hemant Sahu:

    Thank you for these tips, both are usefull and will help me in the future! BTW Natraj, really nice dog :)

    @HIMBAP && Shah_:

    So if I don't have an original copy of VS project, which was used to deploy the solution, there is no way? I suppose I can export and unpack solution from CRM > Settings > Solutions somehow.. There are some xml files and so on.. no use 4 them in my case?

    What is this all about. This plugin was developed by a previous administator, who terminate employment. The only things I've got were a CRM URL and a user name and a password.

    So... just 2 be sure. In this situation I have to develop it all again and from scratch? 8I

    No my friend as I said the only possibility to get the dll from CRM DB which you can't do as you are using CRM online (but you could try to work with Microsoft support and request a db backup and restore this db backup locally and try to get this dll , like this: nishantrana.me/.../get-the-plugin-assembly-stored-in-database-in-crm

    Otherwise you have to write it from scratch... no choice.

    Thanks

    O yes I did not notice that, thanks Guido.

    So now it's easy for you my friend try to get your plugin assembly using XrmToolBox (mscrmtools.blogspot.ae/.../new-xrmtoolbox-plugin-assembly-recovery.html) and then use above method to decode plugin assembly.

    Thanks
