Hi  all,

As subjected, I have created custom data entity with computed column. I have Regenerate Staging and update (actually what is different between regenerate and update, by when we should take which options).

In apps, Refresh Entity and checking the Target fields, is listed my Computed column. But when I succeeded export to Excel, I didn;t see the Computed column, Any setting left undone ?

Thanks,

I have the same question (0)

Whenever you add any new field to entity , with regenerate staging table option it gets created in staging table.

Once you build and do sync successfully make sure you have done regenerate mapping option and make sure in mapping you see all the fields you want to export. Most probably you have missed  to regenerate mapping.

    Hi WWong,

The difference between regenerating and updating the table is that during regeneration all the changes done in the staging table previously are lost. The staging table is re-generated based on the fields added to the entity. Updating the table, however, only updates the staging table with the new changes done to the entity while retaining the old changes done as well.

As for the export to excel, please re-generate the mapping. After a build and DB synch, you can also check the fields returned by the data entity by checking the view corresponding to the entity created in the DB.

    Hi WWwong,

For the difference between Regenerating and updating, Gunjan has given you precise differences, so I will not repeat that.

There are 3 points of failure for issues related to a column not showing/exporting data.

1, The Column is not in staging table -> this needs to be fixed using regenerate/update the staging table in Visual Studio., build, DB Sync.

    2. The column is not showing in Tagert mapping in data entities -> To fix this is going to Data management -> Data entities -> Modify target mapping -> Generate mapping

    3. The column is in target mapping but data is not exporting -> I think this is your case, This happens when you already have a data entity in the processing group and you have updated the data entity and regenerated the mapping as mentioned in point 2 above. You can confirm this issue by going to the processing group,  go to an entity -> Click on View map and you should see there are extra fields in Source which are not mapped to target something like below screenshot

To fix this issue you, go back to the processing group and add the entity again. once you are done then you can check the map and it should show all the fields mapped like below:
