Sorting a chart x axis by option set value instead of label

I have a chart where the x axis is an option set. It currently displays the values in alphabetical order based on the option set value labels. I would like for it sort based on their values instead. I have set them up so that their values are ordered low to high based on the order of a particular business process that we have. Having the chart show up in that order will be intuitive for the users. Showing them alphabetically will be confusing. How can I force the chart to show those values in the x axis based on the option set values?

    You need to export the chart and amend the xml to get the sorting you want.

    Follow process like in

    crmchartguy.wordpress.com/.../order-charts

    Look for section - 

    Order data based on a linked entity

    and the rest of his blogs to show you what you need to amend.

    That article seems to assume that your option set is there purely as a mechanism to force sort order.  In my case the option set is on the entity and storing the actual value. I stumbled on this article that did the trick...
