Inventory Item Error

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I have an inventory item that is showing different available amount in different places.

Under Item Maintenance Qty Avail it says 55.  I bring up the Item Transaction Entry screen input the item number and at the bottom is says 9 are available.  Under Smart List queries it is showing 234 (225 allocated and 9 available).  How do I verify the correct total?

I ran an Inventory Reconciliation and nothing listed.

    RE: Inventory Item Error

    Okay Sir,

Following up with your case, we need to distinguish between two different issues. Primarily, the balances of your inventory items and whether it is showing properly with no contradictions among IV inquiries, reports and Smart List. The script above shall calculate your inventory balance and compare it with the master balance, in case of any variances, it shall be distinguished. What I see above in your print screen, all the shown variances are zero, in case you have any records with no zero variances, please share to dig for further details.

As for the decimals, I can add nothing more valuable to what's mentioned by Ms. Leslie, you do have a problem and I am absolutely sure that you may have other third party product entering some sort of transactions into your inventory, or some sort of back-end modifications have been applied on your db.

Let's split the overall problem into pieces, that would really help all of us reach a happy ending.

    Your feedback is highly appreciated,

the number off the Smart List Report is the one we use for the Inventory count.

As far as the decimal I am concerned becuz we have it set up at "0" but the SQL reports shows ".00831".

    How could this occur?!

I have run all the Reconcile utilities possible,  Nothing is showing up !!

    RE: Inventory Item Error

    Hi Mguyder,

The fact that you do not use more than zero decimals does not affect how the number is stored in the database. The decimal place storage would not be your issue. Every number is stored with 5 decimals. It may be stored that way, but how many decimals you can use is controlled by a different rule in Dexterity. Again, I am nearly certain that this has nothing to do with the problem.

If it were me, I'd first run the reconcile utility as well as the inventory reconcile available in the PSTL module.  Then, I would look at my item quantities table and check the numbers there.

If you go out to the warehouse and count, are either of the numbers correct? Are you using any third-party products that interface with inventory? Are any of your transactions imported rather than being hand-keyed?

There are several things that can cause inventory to be off - there really isn't one stock answer. As with most troubleshooting, it's a treasure hunt.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

"The decimal places are OK. GP stores everything using 5 decimals. The display in the window is determined by the format. Look around the tables, you will find everything is 5 decimals" I realize the above applies BUT WE DO NOT USE anything below 0, NO PARTIALS. Everything should be listed a Zero or more. This may be why the item is not balancing between the diff places ?! m

    RE: Inventory Item Error

Have you run the Reconcile utility on inventory?

What Mahmoud Saadi is asking you to do is add the words 'Use [ your databasename]' (without the quote) as the first line of the query he suggested.

The decimal places are OK. GP stores everything using 5 decimals. The display in the window is determined by the format. Look around the tables, you will find everything is 5 decimals.

Before doing any troubleshooting, you should run the reconcile on inventory. What does your Item Inquiry window look like?

    Kind regards

    Leslie

     see

I ran the quesry directly on the DB file this time an got the results in the 1st pic.  Do not understand why there are decimals.

The second pic is the Item Maint screen where the On Hand is different. Third pic is the Smart List totals.

    Can you please just choose the company db name initially, or you can type the following, considering ABC is your company db name;

    USE ABC
