Cannot export to excel after changing certificate thumbprint

Hello,

I recently changed the certificate thumbprint on the Dynamics 365 Business Central Server (restarted all instances) as the old certificate is about to expire in few days. The current issue I'm having is when export to excel the error message below appeared.

Excel-add_2D00_in-error.PNG

i am using only the Dynamics NAV Client connected to Business Central Server.

Using the other certificate thumbprint (the one about to expire) the export to excel works fine.

Grateful if someone can help, thank you.

I have the same question (0)

    Hello,

With the new SSL cert thumbprint in place, you need to stop the NST and disable OData, Soap (if in use as well) and Development Services including SSL. Then restart the service. After that, stop the service again and enable the three services and the SSL properties for each. Restart the service again for the changes to take effect.

OData, Soap and Development services will continue to use the old SSL cert as they are cached by the system.

    Hope it helps.

    Hello,

What release of BC is this? BC140 with what CU? In Excel, did you enable the classic Excel Add-in (in Excel, there is a toolbar called DynamicsNAV which helps to refresh the data from BC to Excel). You may want to disable that from Excel (File, Options, Add-Ins, Manage [select COM Add-Ins]). If Microsoft Dynamics NAV is listed there, you can uncheck it and perform the exercise again.

Are you exporting data via Windows Client, Ribbon list page or via Print&Send menu, via Microsoft Excel? I do not see how this relates to the thumbprint.

Last what type of authentication are you using, Azure AD authentication, NavUserPassword or Windows authentication?

    Thank you.

    Hello,

Thank you for your reply. Here is the version i am currently using:

    2664.BC-version.PNG

Here is the difference between exporting with add-ins enabled and add-ins disabled:

    1. Export using excel add-in enabled with the old certificate thumbprint (expiring 11/05/22)

    old-certificate-export.png

    2. Export with new certificate thumbprint (note: with new certificate thumbprint everything is working fine except the Print&Send to Excel, error message below)

    1830.Excel-add_2D00_in-error.PNG

2.a. Export with the new certificate thumbprint with excel add-in disabled (in COM add-in):

    old-certificate-export-no-add_2D00_in.png

We are exporting via the Print&Send menu to Excel. Users are requesting to have the first option available again as it is more user friendly (filters, header, etc.). Also the 2nd one is on xml format which we not not want to use.

And regarding type of authentication we are using NavUserPassword, the server is on Azure IaaS.

Let me know if i missed anything.

    Thank you.

    Hello,

When using NavUserPassword as credential type for both NST and Windows Client as specified in customsettings.config / clientusersettings.config file, please set a new password on the user in BC that you are testing with and try again.

I can only reproduce this when I type in a wrong password (I also had to change SSL cert as mine did expire as well on my virtual machine that I booted up for this community posting). Does this issue also happen for a newly created user?

Hope it helps. In case it does not help, please raise it to Microsoft via your partner or CSP.

    Thank you.

    Hello,

I am facing the same issue.

    Did you find a solution?

    Best Regards.

    Hello,

I did not find a solution to this and still searching for it.

If you need a work around for this you can either create a self signed certificate or uncheck "Enable Certificate Validation" on Business central (depends which services you are using, i am not using ODATA & SOAP). Both option is not recommended but you can use to test.

    Thank you.
