When I create the new asset, do you happen to know if there's a way of entering the monthly depreciation that was already recorded for this asset? I know that I can enter the total life to date depreciation amount but it would be nice to keep track of the breakdown of this total per month.

In theory what you could do is add the asset with no LTD depreciation, do the GL post process and post it from the GL batch window (so that transaction hits the GL),
then run depreciation for every month that you want to track as a separate transaction. That way the event will show in the financial detail window (FA00902 table), then when you are caught up with the depreciation periods, run the GL post process again, post to GL but delete the batch in the GL batch window so you don't have to reverse it.
The GP FA00200 table doesn't keep track of every month's depreciation - it only shows the current run and the previous run amounts BUT the FA00902 keeps track of every financial event....
