Recurring "Processes are currently being run that cannot be deleted" with one user

Environment (let me know if you need more)

Server: GP 2013 R2 on a Win 2012 R2 server.

User: GP 2013 on Win7 Workstation

I have 1 user that keeps receiving the error message "Processes are currently being run that cannot be deleted. These processes must be run to completion before you exit"

This has happened for a 2 Bank Recs, a Bank Decrease Adjustment. They go to posting and get stuck on 'Printing' status. They are printing to a printer (as opposed to screen) from what I can tell.  I've checked the user's printer setup and it seems correct. They don't have any ongoing issues with printing.

I am aware of how to get rid of the stuck process, however this is the only user that seems to repeat the issue, but its not able to be replicated. It doesn't do this for every posting/transaction - just every week or so.

Let me know if I can provide any further information. Thanks -

Aaron

    Hi Aaron,

As this issue seems to be only occurring for one user, I am wondering if they having any network connectivity issues. Do you know how long this issue has been occurring for the user?

    Please let me know!

This has been ongoing for a while ( a number of months) , its frequency has been going up lately (could be an increased workload). As far as I know the user's network connection has been OK - as they stream music, access files on network file servers, secure banking, etc.  However I am not sure that they do not have an error free connection - what makes me think they do have an OK connection is that they use secure access to banking, if there were a break in the connection, the session would be terminated. The same goes for their connection to the domain and exchange servers - they would be intermittent due to a break in the ssl/tls connection.   The person is able to work in our domain environment otherwise.  So while I cannot rule it out, anecdotal evidence does not seem to point to a network connection.

Aaron, so when this happens does GP completely lock down?  Or is it temporary and does the system 'unlock' at some point.

One thing I would look at right away, is there main screen and what services they are running or refreshing on the fly.  From this I am referring to the Microsoft Connect app.

I find that network speed aside, this can be a big reason for speed issues.  To test this out, once logged on as the user, see if the Connect applet opens on the main screen.  If it does, click on the Customize this Screen ( upper right ) and click off the Microsoft Connect option on the window that opens.

Post back with the results.  If the Connect App is not present, let us know that as well.

Yes, when this happens GP completely locks up, all I can do is end it via the Task Manager - can't exit via the conventional ways.

I had the user logged in, and it does not seem the Connect app is active. I also went into customize this page and verified there was not a checkmark next to "Connect". So no Connect option seemingly.

Thanks for your help - let me know if you have any further ideas.

    Hi Aaron,

Thanks the response, the reason I had asked if there was any network connection issue is in the past I have seen where even if the network loses connection to the SQL database for even a second it can cause these types of issues to occur. I am going to do a little more research to see what I can find on my end to help point you in the right direction.

    Hi Aaron,

Just to throw in another opinion, from the sound of it, my guess would also be network related.  Like Thomas said, GP is extremely finicky with it's connection to SQL.  We had a similar situation where a user was having constant batches getting stuck.  That user was connecting through Citrix and on a daily basis I was having to fix stuck batches for him.  For a couple of days, I had him email me before he posted and I posted the batches for him and printed the reports.  For those days, the batches went through without issue.  My next step was to have him RDC directly in to the citrix server and process and post through there.  Ever since he's been RDC'ing and posting and there hasn't been any issue.  He's never had any issue with other applications on his machine, just GP.  It turns out that the networking to his machine was not that reliable and our networking guy was able to test it and see lots of drops in his connection.

Just something to think about and maybe there's different ways you can use to test it out to see if it's strictly related to the user's machine.

Arron, the other day I was working with a situation where one user doing Cash Receipts could receive CASH and CREDIT card but not CHECK

We determined it was a situation with a third party app installed.

I mention this because - like your situation - this appeared to be intermittent connection issues, as it only froze once in a while - well as it turned out - once in a while was every time she entered CHECK

Just a thought - but look for applications that are installed here and to which the user may or may not have the correct access.  Because the user can connect to other machines does suggest it is machine specific - but - have a look.

Thanks - its greatly appreciated. I will check to see if there are any connection issues.

Thanks - seems like you all think its network - so I will test the network connection.  I appreciate the response.

Hello Bill - For the other applications - are you speaking about GP-related issues & permissions (we use Management Reporter, Nolan Intercompany and Mekorma MICR) , or any application on the workstation (Office, browser, etc)?
