Is it possible to have order type of quote with a project?

I attempt to enter a quote (order type q)  in order management, but when I get to line item details, the project field is grayed out. If I enter the same item on a sales order (order type so), I am able to enter into the project field. Does the order type of Q prevent me from entering a project in the line detail?

Thank you,
Deb

    Hi Deb,

The Project and Task are disabled for the Q order type since the functionality of the system does not allow you to enter a Sales Account on the Accounts tab.  Generally, for other order types, you can specify the accounts on the Accounts tab and assign account categories to those accounts.  Then, when using those order types, the Project and Task fields will be enabled when creating a Sales Order.

You can enter a project ID on the Other Information tab when using the Q order type.  However, there isn't a task field.

Were you specifically looking to populate the project id on the line items or will using the Other Information tab give you the functionality you are looking for.

Let me know if you need additional assistance.

    Carolyn,

I was actually looking to add the project and task at the line item level. That way when it is converted/copied into an order, it does not have to be repopulated. I was hoping that there was a way to add it at the quote level.

    Thank you,

    Deb

    Hi Deb,

I found a workaround.  Since you cannot enter the sales account in order types, you could  populate it with a query in SQL Server Management Studio. I would suggest making a backup of the database prior to running this query.

update sotype set slsacct = 'XXXX' where sotypeid = 'Q' and cpnyid = 'YYYY'

(populate XXXX with the sales account and YYYY with the Company Id - there will be one record per company and one record with no company listed. You only want to populate this for the appropriate company id's).

After completing this update, the project and task field should be enabled in Sales Order for the line items.  Let me know how it goes.
