Transit Warehouse?

So I noticed that AX new WMS now has a concept of a transit warehouse. this brings to mind a rather difficult situation in my current ERP system(not AX). If an order taker books an order and the end warehouse is in Singapore we still need to consolidate the order at our warehouse in NJ. So we book the order and put the warehouse to be NJ. The problem though is that we only know of Singapore being the final destination by looking at comments buried somewhere in the order! This has left product sitting and sitting, then someone unhappy sends an email asking about the product.

Enter today with AX R3 WMS. Could I use the Transit warehouse to have the product delivered in NJ(transit warehouse) then get consolidated with other product and finally shipped to Singapore?

    RE: Transit Warehouse?

That's not the purpose of Transit warehouses.  Transit warehouses are used by inventory transfer orders.  Product is shipped from a 'From' warehouse and is recorded as on-hand in the Transit warehouse related to the 'From' warehouse until it is received into the 'To' warehouse.   A Dynamics AX Transit warehouse represents a inventory status as much as it does a physical location and you should not attempt to receive inventory directly into a Transit warehouse.

By the way I think the system should use a Transit warehouse related to the 'To' warehouse (not the 'From' warehouse) - but that's a different issue

Transit warehouses are only for keeping stock in transit in check. So in this case you would have two transit orders. Use the warehouse hierarchy to handle the shipping route.

This sounds very much like a capability of the new Transportation Management System.

Namely, you can plan transportation to go through a HUB, which in your case would be your NJ, where multiple shipments could be consolidated and then delivered to the find destination (Singapoure)

Check out more about TMS in the corresponding implementation guide:
