Move Serial Number from one Assembly Item to Another

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I need to move a serial number from one assembly to another.  We did an Assembly Transaction, assigned a serial number to the assembly, and posted the batch.  Now the warehouse has switch components around and the item with that serial number needs to be attached to a different assembly.  How do I do this?

Found my own solution.  Do a negative inventory adjustment from the old assembly item and remove the serial number in question.  Then do a new assembly batch and put the serial number on that new item.

Restore from backups.  Once a serial number is issued to a particular part, MS prevents you from issuing that serial number to that part number again (duplicate serial numbers)

As Walter Cronkite used to say "And that's the way it is!"
