Replaced Printer - Now GP freezes when trying to print to it

We had a printer fail and it had to be replaced.

The printer we replaced it with only prints with the universal driver PCL5.

The previous printer used the PCL6 universal driver.

I have done a test print from the server and it prints fine.  When printing from GP, as soon as I click print everything goes gray and GP is not responding.

Does this mean I need to rebuild the report.dic file?  What am I missing?

Thank you,

Will

If you were using named printers, did you create or update the printer ID for the new printer everywhere that used it.

Having named printer settings for the wrong printer driver can crash GP.

I wrote blog and KB articles about this issue.

I gave up on the printer and put another one in place.  As soon as I put the HP 4200 in place and used the universal PCL6 driver, it worked.

Thank you everyone for your feedback.

I see it is only PCL5e compatible. When you connected it do you load the drivers for that printer or just use the same driver as your previous printer.

What is the make and model of this printer?

Mariano has a good idea but if that is not an option does this printer support any emulation modes?

Take your purchase receipt and go back to staples and get yourself a new printer with support for PS and PCL6 and save yourself the aggravation

It locks up even on a non-graphical report.

    Tami,

Thank you, but I do not see a PS driver as an option for this particular printer.
