Intrastat for US Manufacturer?

(0) ShareShare

We are based in the US.  We sell products around the world.  I create a customized report once a year to send to the EU for our sales there on our current ERP.  We are moving to GP on Jan 1, 2011.  Should we be using Intrastat tracking?  And does Intrastat tracking use all of the country codes in the world, or just European, or just EU?

Hi, probably best to use the Intrastat module unless your transaction volumes are very low (I presume you are subject to the reporting thresholds since you are already reporting). You can set up as many country codes as you like. I prefer to set up country codes for all countries even if not relevant for Intrastat...its another analysis set you might be able to use at some stage. The key issue is whether or not you tell GP that a particular country code is a member of the EU or not (tick box on the country code set up window).

There is quite a bit of set up involved in Intrastat (country codes, transport modes, transaction natures,ports/regions,incoterms,tax commodity codes etc....and then updating supplier / customer / item records) but once done, the tracking and reporting of Intrastat information is relatively automatic. If you are implementing GP from new, then this helps. You can upload the data and start fresh - bit easier than implementing mid cycle.

Will you be using the POP/SOP and Inventory modules?

You will also need to consider the EU VAT set up for your European sub. This is not as easy as it seems - the legislation is vast - and local country differences apply. Having said that, if you're already trading within the EU then you're probably already well advised on your obligations. The good news is that all of this is handled within GP standard modules - Standard VAT set up, VAT Daybooks, Reverse Charge VAT, VAT 100 module, EU Input Tax Rate etc.

Email me if you want any advice or want to run any set up issues by me.

    Best regards,

    Ian.
